Introduction

Married with nine children, I have effectively managed a professional role at senior management levels in global education companies. Also, a qualified lawyer duly called to the Nigerian Bar. Currently retired and set up a sixth form and Pathway College. Also managing an education placement agency. I continue to support family-oriented projects while providing personalized counselling for mothers and wives.

Achivements

 

MARY AGBU Mary is a Law graduate of University of London (Holborn College), called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. She has worked in Mobil Oil Nig. Ltd. as a legal officer in their Legal department and subsequently as a lawyer in a Private Law firm. She subsequently made a career turn in the sphere of Education when she joined the Nigerian Association for Women’s Advancement (NAWA) as Company Secretary and worked on project coordination towards the setup of The Lagoon School for Girls. In 2004 Mary joined the British Council as the Learner support Manager with a countrywide budget responsibility for Education marketing. While at the British Council she was primarily responsible for Education UK Marketing, establishment of various networks (Agents network, Career Teachers network and English Language teachers Network) she organized in-country marketing visits from UK educational institutions and UK Education fairs. In October 2006 she was invited by Kaplan International Colleges to head its West African operations as the Country Director West Africa. She had the responsibility to set up the regional office in Lagos and manage the Sales and Recruitment market for Kaplan in the region. She developed and managed a staff team from 2 to 12 members and developed a marketing strategy for the regional market that recorded a consistent annual target goal achievement that saw the operations grow and the Kaplan Brand become strongly established in Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon. She led her regional team to win the Best Overseas Kaplan Office Award presented by the UK Parent company. In October 2012 she proposed and was granted permission to initiate the establishment of a Pathway College in Nigeria. She was fully responsible for its set up in line with the global standards of the UK Kaplan Colleges. In 2014 she was awarded the prestigious Kaplan Global Leadership Award for leadership and innovation As a member of the Kaplan Senior Management team, she traveled widely across the globe on various capacity building courses such as the Hawkesmere week long MBA as well as participation in organizational planning Events. She also made various Familiarization tours to new college set-ups, contributing immensely to corporate market planning. Mary is very active on Parenting and Family development in Nigeria and is a member of NAFAD. She also received a graduate Diploma Certificate in Education Marriage and Family from the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (online program) On 30th of June 2017, she took an early retirement as Regional Director Kaplan to establish a first Pathway and sixth form college in Nigeria – Multiplan Pathway College where she currently works as the Executive Director while still providing services as the Principal agent of an international Education Consultancy- The First Multiplan Consultants.

Mentoring Experience

   

Education Support I facilitate leadership programs for university students who are engaged in a comprehensive Leadership program that prepares them to effectively manage their life post graduation. I set up a Sixth-form college that prepares students for university and responsible independent living in Institutions of Higher Learning. I initiated an education consulting firm which has successfully supported qualified students seeking placements at global university destinations in Africa, UK, USA and Canada with best options for international study destinations thereby minimizing their search by matching their Higher education aspirations with the right Institution that would provide the desired learning outcome. I provide learner support services for online learners undertaking university test preparatory classes, undergraduate degrees programs, Postgraduate and professional programs by providing learning guide techniques that support disciplined committed learning for best results. I provide advisory services for secondary Schools seeking to create partnership links with Intitutions of Higher educational towards progression for their successful secondary finishers. I provide visa support for students progressing to study destinations in global destinations. I provide mentoring for School Counselors on certificated online counselling programs. Family Developement. I give regular classes to parents on parenting from ages 0 to 0 to 5yrs; 6 to 12yrs and 13 to 18yrs as well as young adults. I also provide through the NAFAD family development program, Marriage counselling and guidance for married couples at various stages of their marriage. I provide individual mentoring for staff to help them achieve a right work-life balance and prioritize effectively. Work Environment I train on Customer care delivery and methods to apply this as a critical marketing tool to produce optimal results particularly for Small to medium size Enterprises. Being a qualified Lawyer I can provide legal expertise in the area of company registration in Nigeria and processing company expatriate quota for international companies wishing to register their business in Nigeria. This service is provided in partnership with my husband who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. By this partnership I am also able to manage all regulatory requirements needed for an intending investor in a wide range of operations including Education manufacturing and Service industry in Nigeria. (this is limited to advisory support) During my years as Learner Support Manager at the British Council, I was able to manage some education networks which include :- network of English Teachers in secondary schools, Education Counselors network and Agents Network - I provided access for counselors working in education agencies to undertake the appropriate certificated online Education Marketing course for the counselors. I was also able to replicate this capacity building facilitation for Agency directors and Principal Agents. As Regional Director for Kaplan International Colleges in Nigeria I personally oversaw its successful set up and progressive brand growth in the West African region.
